September: (come see our) Revolutionary Comedy

Updated: 5 days ago

Picking up where last month’s update left off, our Devil’s Disciple run at Theatre Row is fast approaching I hope to see some of you there!

Shaw of the Moment

The Devil's Disciple: October 15 - November 23

I am assistant directing this exciting Off-Broadway production for Gingold Theatrical Group, a non-profit theatre company focusing on activist theatre with playwright George Bernard Shaw as our guide. Set during the American Revolution, this rebellious comedy introduces us to a memorable cast of characters discovering that they can be more than the roles society has cast them in. Staying true to the heart and commentary of Shaw’s text, our production (adapted and directed by David Staller) streamlines the story to be told by a cast of five women in a fresh reimagining for today.

We are currently midway through our rehearsal process, and will soon be moving into our performance venue at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd Street). It’s been fascinating to help our cast delve deep into this text and unearth new layers in these intriguing characters so far, and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the journey takes us! You will be especially likely to find me at the theatre early in the run, or at one of our Sunday afternoon talkback performances.

Meanwhile in Dramaturgy

This month has mostly been full of in-person rehearsals, but I’ve also been working on remote dramaturgy for a few ongoing partnerships:

  • I continue to write and design student activity guides for each mainstage production at The Growing Stage, shortly opening their 43rd season.

  • I have been compiling dramaturgical research and playwright bios for several plays on the upcoming 2024 Expand the Canon list, soon to be announced on October 21.

And stay tuned for some upcoming projects on the audio front…
